Sunday 9th August
Blessed Lord, you are great, the heavens speak of your glory. You do wonders in heaven and we see the signs on earth. We the work of your hands worship you today, accept our worship in Jesus name. We have not forsaken the gathering of the brethren, we have come to fellowship with each other in your presence, come down and lord and let us feel your presence.

Thank you for all your support of Wrington Chapel and its work in the past.
We realise that many people are hard-pressed at the moment, and church may be the last thing on your mind. However, we are looking to the future when we can reopen and support each other in our usual way. Unfortunately, being closed does not mean our expenses are substantially less. If you already have a standing order set up, then thank you. But if you haven't, please consider getting in touch with Steve Osman and setting one up. If that is impossible, please continue to save up your collection money, and we will collect it all together when we reopen. Please note that the rules do not allow us to claim any Gift Aid on collections that are not taken up in church. So do NOT drop collection money off at Steve's house. Simply take out a standing order, or save it up for that great and glorious reopening day.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
Psalm 46
Loving Lord, We pray today for the people of Beirut. When we look on the pictures of the devastation caused by the explosion our hearts break for the people who have lost friends and family. For those who have had their homes destroyed or made uninhabitable and those who wait at hospitals for news of loved ones. Lord we ask that you will be in that situation, that you will direct our prayers and our responses.
We praise you and give thanks for answered prayers. We thank you that some have been healed, some have seen improvements in their situation. We thank you for the encouragement answered prayer brings to us.
We give thanks that some are able to return to worship you in the chapel today. We ask your blessing on Duncan as he leads a very different type of worship and we pray that everyone who attends will feel blessed to be able to share with others even though distanced. Pray also for everyone meeting afterwards in different gardens that this will be a time of real joy and community.
We bring to you again all those on our prayer list, asking that you would meet their needs. Only you know what each person really needs. Thank you that we are able to bring our friends and families to you through prayer
Our prayer focus this week is Romans1.11
Pray that our brothers and sisters in Uganda would feel supported by us as they struggle against covid-19 and climate change.
Ask God to show you if you should support them through sponsorship.
David 6
We continue looking at the life of David.
And this passage leads to one of great violence by Saul.
In that, we consider the reasons,
and look at the difference between Saul and David in how they repent.
How does David take responsibility?

1st Samuel 21 verses 1 to 15
David went to Nob, to Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek trembled when he met him, and asked, "Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?"
2 David answered Ahimelek the priest, "The king sent me on a mission and said to me, 'No one is to know anything about the mission I am sending you on.' As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place. 3 Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find."
4 But the priest answered David, "I don't have any ordinary bread on hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here-provided the men have kept themselves from women."
5 David replied, "Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever[b] I set out. The men's bodies are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!" 6 So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the Lord and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away.
7 Now one of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the Lord; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul's chief shepherd.
8 David asked Ahimelek, "Don't you have a spear or a sword here? I haven't brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king's mission was urgent."
9 The priest replied, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one."
David said, "There is none like it; give it to me."

10 That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath. 11 But the servants of Achish said to him, "Isn't this David, the king of the land? Isn't he the one they sing about in their dances:
12 David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. 13 So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.
14 Achish said to his servants, "Look at the man! He is insane! Why bring him to me? 15 Am I so short of madmen that you have to bring this fellow here to carry on like this in front of me? Must this man come into my house?"
Come. Turn to God this day.
Turn with your eyes open,
to see God's glory in the lives around you.
Turn with your hearts open,
to let God's Spirit have full rein and flow through you.
Turn with your minds open,
to understand that this God truly loves you.
Turn with all your life.
Turn with all your will.
And see God turned to you.
