Sunday 6th September

Blessed Lord, you are great, the heavens speak of your glory.

You do wonders in heaven and we see the signs on earth.

We the work of your hands worship you today,

accept our worship in Jesus name.

We have not forsaken the gathering of the congregation,

we have come to fellowship with each other in your presence,

come down and lord and let us feel your presence.

Giving

Thank you for all your support of Wrington Chapel and its work in the past.

We realise that many people are hard-pressed at the moment, and church may be the last thing on your mind. However, we are looking to the future when we can reopen and support each other in our usual way. Unfortunately, being closed does not mean our expenses are substantially less. If you already have a standing order set up, then thank you. But if you haven't, please consider getting in touch with Steve Osman and setting one up. If that is impossible, please continue to save up your collection money, and we will collect it all together when we reopen. Please note that the rules do not allow us to claim any Gift Aid on collections that are not taken up in church. So do NOT drop collection money off at Steve's house. Simply take out a standing order, or save it up for that great and glorious reopening day.

'God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.'

Psalm 46

God of justice and compassion, We pray for the leaders of the nations,

thinking especially of lands where there is warfare...hunger...injustice...

May those in authority see leadership Not only as the getting and wielding of power,

But as the fulfilment of a calling to serve their country

And better the lives of their people.

God of hope and salvation, We pray for the church:

For this congregation; For the church here, in Wrington and throughout the world.

May we be united in obeying your call

To be servants of the gospel, Proclaiming the good news of your forgiving love

To all the world God of power and love

We pray for ourselves

Remembering those who are sick, sorrowful or anxious

May your holy spirit live in us and strengthen us,

Enabling us to follow our calling to love and serve,

And inspiring our actions, words and prayers.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers,

Amen

Loving God, we are your family because you have fathered us into being.

We belong to you because you have mothered us into life.

Loving God your care for us is never ending and so we bring to you those on our prayer list, your children who need you to heal them, comfort them, strengthen them, encourage them and keep them company on their journey.

Our prayer focus this week is MAF,

Thank you for the work they are doing in difficult circumstances.

Two Rabbis and Jesus

Today we look further at Jesus' approach to the Law and to righteousness.

How do we tread a middle path between legalism and anarchy?

That is the Jesus way - the way of love.

Matthew 12

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

1 At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them.

2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath."

3 He answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread-which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.

5 Or haven't you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?

6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.

7 If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.

8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

When we love, our God,
our hearts are open to greater possibilities
and larger realities;
we share in your great love for this world.
Today, Lord, will you enlarge our hearts.
Fire our imaginations.
And, in our lives, our words, our hope,
weave your love into reality.

Amen

Next week we share Communion at the end.
