Sunday 23rd August

Blessed Lord, you are great, the heavens speak of your glory.

You do wonders in heaven and we see the signs on earth.

We the work of your hands worship you today,

accept our worship in Jesus name.

We have not forsaken the gathering of the congregation,

we have come to fellowship with each other in your presence,

come down and lord and let us feel your presence.

Giving

Thank you for all your support of Wrington Chapel and its work in the past.

We realise that many people are hard-pressed at the moment, and church may be the last thing on your mind. However, we are looking to the future when we can reopen and support each other in our usual way. Unfortunately, being closed does not mean our expenses are substantially less. If you already have a standing order set up, then thank you. But if you haven't, please consider getting in touch with Steve Osman and setting one up. If that is impossible, please continue to save up your collection money, and we will collect it all together when we reopen. Please note that the rules do not allow us to claim any Gift Aid on collections that are not taken up in church. So do NOT drop collection money off at Steve's house. Simply take out a standing order, or save it up for that great and glorious reopening day.

Verse 1

My soul was looking for a place to rest
Then I found Your grace out in the wilderness
You know this heart
You've shown me love

Chorus

Magnificent kindness
You came to find us
I turned around and You were there
Standing in mercy
Forever You've won me
You taught my heart to sing again

Verse 2

For grace has let me start again in You
And grace will lead me home
When this life is through, I live in this hope
Finally free

Bridge

Your mercy is a miracle
Your mercy is a miracle
(REPEAT)
It's a miracle

Bridge 2

You're worthy
God most holy
I've found mercy
I've found You

Loving and gracious God,

We thank you for your many gifts to us:

For the world which you have made To provide us with all that we need for life,

And to be our place of pilgrimage; For the gift of one another,

The caring, the sharing, the laughter and tears,

The demands and rewards of loving;

For life itself, with its opportunities, its challenges, its moments of joy.

For all this, we thank you, Parent God.

We thank you most faithful God,

For the gift of yourself:

Your steadfast and forgiving love for your people.

Despite their straying hearts And their acts of disobedience;

And for sending your only Son To share our human life with us,

To call us back to you,To die for us upon the cross,

And to be raised again that we might know true and eternal life in you.

Loving and gracious God,

We thank you for your many gifts to us.

Amen

Lord, we bring to you those on our prayer list and those that we know are in need.

Thank you that you allow us to bring our concerns to you.

Our prayer focus this week is Tearfund .

There are so many needs right now with corona virus and the devastation caused by the explosion in Beirut. Please pray but also consider giving to Tearfund's emergency appeal to allow them to continue to offer support.

David, part 8: Look Foolish

Today we see that, even though David is a great example for us in how to approach other people, he can still make mistakes. This, especially with family members. So we consider some pointers for making peace with those closest to us.

2nd Samuel 6 verses 5 to 22

5 David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets,[d] harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals.

6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The Lord's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.

8 Then David was angry because the Lord's wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.[e]

9 David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, "How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?" 10 He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. 11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.

12 Now King David was told, "The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God." So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13 When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.

17 They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. 18 After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. 19 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"

21 David said to Michal, "It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord's people Israel-I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor."

Lord, teach me what I REALLY need:
For I need a heart,
moulded by the tears of the downtrodden.

Lord, make my life rich:
For richness is in abundance of compassion.
Lord bless me with health,
that I may use it to embrace the outcast.
Then, as I spend myself on others,
help me know myself fully yours.

Amen
