Sunday 7th June

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your unending patience and grace towards us. We've muddled through another week, some of us very busy with the demands of work and others of us busy in other ways, perhaps all of us at times feeling unsure.

The things we had come to take for granted a few months ago are no longer certain and each day brings us no closer to knowing when and where the effects of Coronavirus will cease to have an impact on our world. Our hearts are heavy too Lord with the knowledge of so much injustice in our world.

We are so grateful that we have a relationship with you Lord, that you dwell in our hearts and the promises that you made are the firm ground on which we can stand. Take the distractions and fears from us Lord as we come to you now, for this time set aside to worship you and learn more of your desire for our lives. We know that this time is shared with many who we cannot currently be with but we join together now, as brothers and sisters in you,

Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen

Giving

Thank you for all your support of Wrington Chapel and its work in the past.

We realise that many people are hard-pressed at the moment, and church may be the last thing on your mind. However, we are looking to the future when we can reopen and support each other in our usual way. Unfortunately, being closed does not mean our expenses are substantially less. If you already have a standing order set up, then thank you. But if you haven't, please consider getting in touch with Steve Osman and setting one up. If that is impossible, please continue to save up your collection money, and we will collect it all together when we reopen. Please note that the rules do not allow us to claim any Gift Aid on collections that are not taken up in church. So do NOT drop collection money off at Steve's house. Simply take out a standing order, or save it up for that great and glorious reopening day.

'Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances'

1 Thessalonians 5.17

We give thanks that life is becoming a little more normal but we ask that you give us wisdom as we each decide how much we can relax our vigilance. We long to see our families and friends but pray that we will continue to be mindful of putting others at risk. We pray your protection on shop workers returning to work and businesses that are re-opening. We pray for any who have lost their jobs because of this ongoing situation.

We are still not able to meet together for worship but we give thanks for technology that allows us to be united as we listen to the Sunday service on our laptops and phones. We ask your blessing on Duncan as he preaches each week and on everyone who has a part to play in putting the service together and on line are glad that we are able to meet together via zoom for coffee and chat and we give thanks for opportunities We to continue to study and learn within our home groups.

We remember all those on our prayer list and others in our hearts.

Our Prayer focus is MAF.

We give thanks that after several weeks of lock-down MAF were able to resume flying in Uganda on 28th May. They have been able to deliver vital supplies to an area of the country badly affected by flooding where bridges and roads have been swept away making access over land impossible and leaving many homes, schools and medical centres destroyed.

Growing in Jesus

Hebrews 10 verses 11 to 25

Today we look at what it means to follow Jesus. We call him Lord, but how should that affect our lives? And is there anything we can do to improve. We also conclude this message by sharing Communion together.

Hebrews 10 : 11 to 25

11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:

16 "This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds."

17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."
18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

A Call to Persevere in Faith

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

In Closing:

As the family of God,

we affirm that here we have no prejudice.

Here we are children of God, who calls us to love each other as he would:

as mothers care for their own;

as fathers protect their own.

Here it is not our blood keeping us apart but the blood of Jesus drawing us together.

Here is our fulfilment,

as we follow the one who fathered and mothered us.

Amen
